Company secretary is the senior post in a private or public sector’s company.
Company secretary deals with the legal activities of any business. Company secretary is a traditional positioned as the support of the board of directors .But now the business strategy has been changed and the role of the CS has been expanded. The CS (Company Secretary) is a 3 years professional course equivalent to the UG degree. The CS course is conducted by the ICSE (Institute of Company Secretaries of India). The main role of the company secretary is:
The role of a company secretary is to keep the records, advice, tax returns and evaluate the legal
aspects of the organization.To communicate and register the shareholders of the companies
and to ensure the dividend are paid, and to maintain the annual records.
Who can apply for CS.
Any stream student can apply for CS courses. Their no restriction for any one.
Eligibility criteria is the candidates who have pursued a pass in 12th can apply for this course.
There is not such a exam for
the Company Secretary course after 12th till 2019 .
New changes:
Now, CSEET will be a mandatory qualifying test for registration to Executive Programme for all
categories of students.

Foundation Course – 8 months replaced with CS Executive Entrance Test (CSEET)
Intermediate/Executive Course – 9 months
Final/Professional Course – 15 months
Changes in course- The amendment has turned Company Secretary (CS) Course into 2 stage
course, viz, Executive and Professional Programme.There is no foundation programme.
Foundation is replaced with CSEET.

• New structure in CS course.
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India ( ICSI ) has decided to bring a catena of changes
in the CS Examinations.
It has been decided by the Council in its meeting held on 4th – 5th May,2020.
1.The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has introduced a major change in the
curriculum of ICSI CS programme. … The programme has been replaced with CS Executive
Entrance Test (CSEET). Now, CSEET will be a mandatory qualifying test for registration to
Executive Programme for all categories of students.
- New Admissions to the Foundation Programme of CS Course stands discontinued. (Note :
Existing Foundation Programme Students shall be allowed to appear in the Foundation
Programme Examinations till expiry of the validity of their registrations. Such students, after
passing the Foundation Programme Examinations, may register for Executive Programme as
per existing process.)
3.Revised Fee Structure for registration to Executive Programme is given below :
Registration fees : CSEET passed , CS Foundation passed ,ICAI Final passed and ICMAI Final
passed will be Rs. 200 for each.
Education Fee : CSEET passed , CS Foundation passed ,ICAI Final passed and ICMAI Final
passed will be Rs. 650 for each.
CSEET Exemption Fee: CSEET passed , CS Foundation passed , will be Nil for this two. ICAI Final
passed and ICMAI Final passed will be Rs. 500 for each.
Pre-Exam Test Fee : CSEET passed , CS Foundation passed ,ICAI Final passed and ICMAI Final
passed will be Rs. 100 each.
One Day Orientation Program : CSEET passed , CS Foundation passed ,ICAI Final passed and
ICMAI Final passed will be Rs. 600 each.
Chartered Secretary Journal Subscription (Optional) for one year : CSEET passed ,
CS Foundation passed ,ICAI Final passed and ICMAI Final passed will be Rs. 500 each. - The CSEET shall be an online Computer-based Test. CSEET will be comprising of MCQs, audio
clips, video clips, and descriptive questions. - Students are require to score an aggregate of 50% and minimum 40% marks in each subject
will be the qualifying criteria for CSEET.
The duration of CSEET shall be 135 minutes (120 Minutes for MCQ test and 15 minutes for Viva
Voce). There will be no negative marking.Computer Based Test of 120 Minutes consisting of
four parts 50 marks each viz.
1.Business Communication
2.Legal Aptitude & Logical Reasoning
3.Economic and Business Environment
4.Current Affairs and Viva of 15 Minutes on “Presentation and Communication Skills”
The great relief to students is that there will be NONegative Marking.
6 . Provisional Registration to Executive Programme stands discontinued.
7.New Training Structure and Development Programme
Finally the amendment brings in an uniform training structure and has removed the ambiguity
that existed earlier. The previous structure had different training period based on levels of
completion of examination.The new structure has simplified all this ambiguous applicability
criteria and defined a simple structure.The new training structure for students, comprises of 24
months training which shall provide them with a platform to develop their core competencies
and harness their soft skills including managerial and leadership capabilities.
